Where Are You?

One of the reasons I love yoga is that the practice of yoga grows with you.

People begin a yoga practice for many different reasons. The most common one is to maintain physical health. It might be it to increase flexibility, strengthen the body or maintain physical balance. Regular practice will provide these benefits, as well as many others subtle differences that will begin to appear over time.

A reduction in stress and pain, improved sleep, and becoming more mindful are just a few. Studies continue to tout the many benefits of a yoga practice.

In the simplest of terms, yoga means union. To feel completely connected and present in your mind and body is a beautiful thing and a wonderful gift of the practice. You do this by creating a regular practice. An experienced teacher can guide you and provide you with a solid foundation on which to continually build. Attention drives transformation. Awareness creates evolution. Thus, the phrase – the practice grows with you.

To grow and expand as human beings, we all must begin somewhere. The body is a natural starting place. As our bodies change over time, they require regular maintenance to continue to perform for us with less pain and more joy.

Taking care of only the outside body neglects the whole body, which is expansive. Learning to take care of your body from the inside out, creates the mind-body experience that is the gift of yoga.

If you’re new to the practice of yoga or never experienced a session, this may sound very abstract and difficult to comprehend. One of my current students, Betsy, began practicing with me several months ago – she had never developed a regular practice. Read Betsy's story of progress below and see more stories here.

The subject of yoga and its practice is vast, its benefits immense, and the experience is real. You will only find this out for yourself by stepping on the mat to pursue a practice of your own.

Curious to learn more?  You can reach me at Rachel or check out my website. I offer both public and private classes, and am happy to talk with you about your concerns or interest. I firmly believe that the practice of yoga has something to offer everyone. So, where are you?

Betsy's Story

Betsy in Tree Pose

I have been participating in the Yoga Flow and Go class for several months, and have gained much knowledge, especially proper alignment. It didn’t take long before I noticed improvements in my strength and form.

Rachel emphasizes slow and gentle movements with a variety of poses at each class. This keeps it new and interesting, so I always look forward to the next session.

I enjoy the diversity of the group and appreciate everyone’s support, which motivates me to keep coming back. I find that I am more aware of my breath and this helps me become more centered in my daily life.  Thank you, Rachel!
