Renewal: Breathe It In

Springtime and renewal go hand in hand.

Every Spring, I feel a renewed sense of spirit and intention working to push me through the old and make room for the new. Many of us are motivated to clear out the clutter in our physical spaces, as Spring cleaning begins in earnest. New Year’s intentions are long forgotten, and Spring carries an energizing quality along.

We see grass grow, plants wake up and blossom, more daylight exists, shaking off the sluggish lazy days of winter.  We want to move our bodies, be outside, lighten our diets, and remove our clutter, inside and out.

What does renewal mean to you? To me, it means letting go of the old and stepping into the new, committing (and recommitting) to my intentions, forgiving and moving on, and doing the Spring cleaning necessary to make room to bring more clarity into my life.

The practice of yoga offers built in renewal opportunities. The mere act of stepping onto your mat creates a shift away from where you were just moments before. What is old, is new again.

Your body releases built up tensions and stress as you move with awareness from one pose to the next. Each moment brings a new level of awareness and reflection.

Your breath-work serves as a gentle washing machine, cleansing and clearing the body and mind with each new breath you take in and each old breath you let go. There is new energy, life, running through you, which leaves your body feeling refreshed and your mind calm. One of the greatest gifts of yoga is the opportunity for a fresh start each day.
